Lesson 87 A perfect alibi

part 1

A man planned a murder, but he tried to escape being arrested .When questioned, he was eager to hide some truth by telling lies.But everything was useless because he came across a wise inspector. So all kinds of his attempts ended up with failure.

Here’s what happened. The man always gets to the working unit on time. So he has to set out from home at 7:00 so that he arrives at the station at 7:50 and catches the 8:00 o’clock train to London in time.

Part 3

When the inspector asked the man why he caught such an early train, the man told him that he must catch the 8 o’clock train to London or else he would be late for work.

The inspector continued asking the man what he did and whether he found something unusual while he was waiting for the train on that day ，the man said he found nothing unusual but bought a newspaper.The inspector asked again whether he could get to work on time if he caught the later train. The man said he supposed so, but he had never done before.

The man argued cunningly that On that day of the murder, I indeed got to work on time If you didn’t believe me, you could ask my employer who would confirm that I was there on time.The inspector pondered for a short time and suggested that he didn’t catch the 8:00 o’clock train at all, but caught the 8:25 one which would still enable him to get to work on time. And the inspector pointed out seriously that he was telling a lie .

When the man tried to say something, the inspector stopped him in time and added that maybe you really didn’t know that on the day of the murder, the 8 o’clock train had been taken off the line due to breakdown and the 8 o’clock train didn’t run at all.

Part7

The murderer looked at the inspector in shock. Little did he expect that the inspector had discovered the clue so quickly. And he had to admit his guilt as the evidence of his so-called perfect alibi was falling apart. Then he lowered his head and afterwards was taken away by two policemen.
