一、今天我们学习的关系副词有三个：when，where，why。

1.why:用于修饰表示原因的名词（eg. the reason）

We don’t know the reason why he didn’t show up.

• 译文大意：我不知道这个原因，他没有来的原因。
• 先行词是“the reason”表原因，关系副词“why”。定语从句“he did not show up”缺一个介词短语做原因状语。完整的从句应该是“he did not show up for 某某原因”

2.when:修饰表示时间的名词（eg. next week）

We’ll put off the picnic until next week, when the weather may be better.

• 译文大意：我们将要推迟野餐到下周，天气好一点的下周。
• 先行词是“next week”表时间，关系副词“when”。定语从句“the weather may be better”修饰的是next week，天气可能会更好一点的那一周。

3.where:修饰表示地点的名词（eg. the place）

We don’t know the place he lives.

• 译文大意：我不知道这个地方，就是他住的地方。

先行词是“the place”表地点，关系副词“wher”。定语从句“he lives”，缺一个介词短语做地点状语。完整的定语从句应该是“he lives in 某某地方”
